A state of complete physical, mental and social well-being; not merely the absence of disease or infirmity
Veterinary Public Health definition
The sum of all contributions to the physical, mental and social well-being of humans through an understanding and application of veterinary science
Key areas of VPH
- Food security: quantity, quality and safety.
- Zoonoses: prevention, surveillance and control.
- Animals in society: companion animal, wildlife, and exotic animal issues.
- Environmental protection: Prevention, monitoring and response to naturally occurring toxins, industrial toxins and agricultural residues.
- Communication and liaison: Risk analysis and information transfer to health professionals, legislators, industry, and public.
