what is the characteristic for NFA-VPS
A category of meds for non-food animals that can be supplied by a vet surgeon, pharmacist or suitably qualified persons
Prescription is not needed but these meds should not be accessible to public
Whats the characteristic of POM-V
Prescription only meds that can only be prescribed by vet surgeon and supplied by vet surgeon of pharmacists with written prescription
What are the characteristics of POM-VPS
Prescription only meds that can be prescribed and supplied by a vet surgeon, pharmacist or a suitably qualified person, on an oral or written prescription.
(a written prescription is only needed if the supplier is not the prescriber )
What are the characteristics of AVM-GSL
An authorised vet medicines that is available on general sale.
What are the characteristics of Exempt under the schedule 6 vet medicines regulations?
An unlicensed vet medicines that does not require marketing authorisation because it meets criteria laid out in schedule 6 of the veterinary meds.
What are characteristics of unauthorised vet medicines?
Unlicensed medicines that does not have a marketing authorisation and is not eligible for exemption through SAES, and only under veterinary cascade.
What are the prescription requirements for POM-V and POM-VPS and medicines supplied under the veterinary cascade.
- Name, address, telephone number, qualification and signature of the prescriber.
if schedule 2 + 3 CDs the RCVS of prescriber number must be included - Name and address of the owner
- Identification and species of the animal and its address
- date; prescriptions are valid six months

what is the differences between human private prescriptions and veterinary prescriptions
Standardised forms needed for schd 2 and 3 CDs for human private prescriptions.
For Veterinary no standardised forms but needs to state ‘prescribed for an animal or herd under care’. ( for schd 2 and 3)
Veterinary prescriptions should be retained for 5 years and not submitted to the NHS agency
Original human private prescriptions for schd 2 and 3 CDs must be submitted to the relevant NHS agency
Vet prescriptions; for schd 2 and 3 CDs must have RCVS number of prescriber
Human private prescriptions for schd 2 and 3 CDs and must include a prescriber identification number.

Both valid for 28 days

Who can supply authorised retailers with veterinary medicines?
The manufacturer of a vet medicine or a holder of WDA
