Vessels of the Equine Thoracic Limb Flashcards
Radial a.
Descends as the medial palmar metacarpal a.; the palmar branch joins with collateral ulnar a. to form the lateral palmar a.
Median a.
Branches into Radial a. and Medial Palmar a.
Medial palmar a.
aka Palmar Common Digital a. II; main blood supply to the digits, divides to medial and palmar digital a.
Vessels of thoracic limb of bovine
Median a., palmar common digital a. III (principal artery to the metacarpus), dorsal common digital v. III (drains into accessory cephalic v.)
Medial cutaneous antebrachial n.
cutaneous innervation only to medial thoracic limb up to fetlock joint; can palpate over lacertus fibrosis
Ulnar n.
Bifurcates just aboce carpus, supplies cutaneous innervation to the distal medial aspect of the brachium and caudal aspect of the antebrachium (has a dorsal and palmar branch [joins with lateral branch of median n. to form lateral palmar n.])
Median n.
Branches into medial palmar n., lateral palmar n.
Medial palmar n.
gives off doral branch at the fetlock and continues as medial palmar digital n.
Communicating branch
connects medial and lateral palmar n. at the level of the midmetacarpal bone
Lateral palmar n.
At the level of the fetlock gives off a dorsal branch and continues as lateral palmar digital n.
Passes through the tarsal tunnel! Palmar branch of ulnar n. joins before entering.
Medial palmar metacarpal n.
Associated with abaxial surface of splint bone (2nd metacarpal)
Lateral palmar metacarpal n.
Associated with abaxial surface of splint bone (4th metacarpal)
