Vessels of the Equine Pelvic Limb Flashcards
Saphenous a.
Anastamoses from caudal tibial a. and joins with caudal femoral. Cranial branch is superficial and goes to medial tarsus and distal structures. The caudal branch has an S shaped anastamosis from the caudal tibial a. before branching at the tarsus.
Femoral a.
Branches into saphenous a. and caudal femoral a.; it is a continuation of the external ilia a. exiting the vascular lacuna
Caudal femoral a.
There is not proximal/middle/distal caudal femoral a. ONLY a caudal femoral a. It is near where the the distal caudal femoral a. is in the canine.
Popliteal a.
Continuation of the femoral a. after the caudal femoral a. branches off
Cranial tibial a.
continuation of the popliteal a. as the cranial and caudal tibial a. branch
Dorsal pedal a.
continuation of the cranial tibial a. at the tarsus, joins with a branch from the saphenous a.
Dorsal metatarsal a. III
aka great metatarsal a.; major blood supply to the digit anastamoses with branches from saphenous a. at the level of the fetlock; branches into medial/lateral plantar digital a.
Sciatic n.
Branches into common peroneal n. and tibial n.
Common peroneal n.
Lateral extensor m., cutaneous distribution to lateral leg, damage results in knuckling over
Superficial peroneal n.
Cutaneous distribution to lateral aspect of crus to fetlock, lateral digital extensor m.
Deep peroneal n.
cutaneous distribution to the pes; branches into medial and lateral dorsal metatarsal n.
Medial dorsal metatarsal n.
cutaneous distribution to dorsal metatarsus; goes to medial dorsal digital n. (cutaneous distribution to dorsal digit)
Lateral dorsal metatarsal n.
cutaneous distribution to dorsal metatarsus; runs with great metatarsal a.; runs into lateral dorsal digital n. which provides cutaneous distribution to the dorsal digit
Tibial n.
Branches into medial and lateral plantar n.
Medial plantar n.
cutaneous distribution to medioplantar metatarsal
