Vertical Milling Machine Flashcards
What system do nearly all CNC machine use
A cartesian coordinate system based on an X,Y and Z axis
What does a Cartesian coordinate system allow the machine to do?
allows a machine to move in a specific direction along a specific plane.
What is the easiest way to understand the coordinate system in relation to your CNC machine
is using the Right Hand Rule
How do u use the right hand rule
Hold your hand out palm up with your thumb and index finger pointed outwards, and your middle finger pointed upwards.
Place your hand in front of your CNC machine, aligned with the machine’s spindle, and you’ll see the axes line up perfectly.
Which finger represents the Z axis and what does it allow for
Middle finger is the Z-axis.
Z-axis allows movement “up” and “down”
Which finger represents the Y axis and what does it allow for
Index finger is the Y-axis.
Y-axis allows movement “forward” and “backward”
Which finger represents the X axis and what does it allow for
Thumb is the X-axis.
X-axis allows movement “left” and
“right”
What are the tools made from and what can they cut
hey are made from high speed steel and are strong enough to cut through mild steel, cast steel and aluminium.
What can a milling machine be used for
Drill
Cut slots
