Thoracic ( 12 ), Lumbar ( 5 ), Cervical ( 7 ), Sacrum ( 5 ), Coccyx ( 5 )
Function of the vertebral column.
Protects the spinal cord, Supports the head, Provide attachment for the ribs and muscles.
Three main curvatures of the spine.
Cervical Lordosis, Thoracic Lordosis, Lumbar Lordosis.

Vertebrae C1 and Vertebrae C2 form a joint that allows the head to move side to side.
Atlas ( Vertebrae C1 ), Axis ( Vertebrae C2 )
Where the joint that allows the head to move up and down located?
Between the atlas and the occipital.
- Acts as shock absorber between each of the vertebrae in the spinal column.
- Also serve to protect the nerves that run down the middle of the spine
Intervertebral disc
Basic movable unit at the back.
Motion segment
Provides for passage of the spinal cord.
Vertebral Foramen
Opening between vertebrae through which nerves leave the spine and extend to other parts of the body.
Intervertebral Forman
Bony passageway within the vertebral column for the spinal cord that is formed by the series of individual vertebral foramina
