Vertebral artery Flashcards
Where does it originate?
Subclavian artery
Where does it pass through?
transverse foramina of cervical vertebrae and ascends down neck
What does it supply?
the posterior part of brain, cranial part of spinal cord meninges and deep cervical muscles
What are the four parts?
Prevertebral (V1), Transverse (V2), Atlantic (V3), Intracranial (V4)
Prenatal runs
between longus coli and scalenus anterior
Transverse enters
enters transverse foremen through 6th cervical vertebra and ascends through other foramina of other cervical vertebrae to the atlas
Atlantic perforates
posterior atlanto-occipital membrane and spinal dura meter and passes through the foramen magnum into the cranial cavity.
The intracranial is located
in the posterior cerebral fossa
Both the veterbral arteries fuse
to make unpaired basilar artery.
