Intransitive verbs
can be used without an object e.g. that farmer is going
Transitive verbs
require an object e.g. That farmer is finding his drink
The simple aspect
suggests that an activity is complete (I ran the marathon)
The progressive aspect
Expresses the idea that someone is in the middle of doing something (I’m leaving)
The perfective aspect
Shows that an action in the past has a result now (I’ve seen enough)
Auxiliary verbs
‘help’ the main verb to convey a particular meaning (have, do, be)
Modal auxiliary verb
expresses a judgment or possibility or the idea of obligation or freedom to act.
Epistemic examples
express degrees of certainty (will, can, could, would, may, might)
Deontic examples
express obligation & necessity (will, must, shall, should)
