What is a verb?
A verb is a word that expresses an action, a state of being, or an occurrence. It’s the core of the predicate of a sentence.
What are action verbs?
Action verbs describe actions that someone or something can do.
Examples: run, jump, eat, write, think, sing, dance
What are linking verbs?
Linking verbs connect the subject of a sentence to a word or phrase that describes or identifies the subject.
Examples: The soup is hot. She seems happy. He became a doctor. The music sounds beautiful.
What are auxiliary (helping) verbs?
Auxiliary verbs are used with a main verb to express tense, mood, or voice.
Examples: I am writing a letter. She has finished her work. They will go to the party. He can speak Spanish.
What are the common verb tenses?
Verbs change form to show when an action takes place. Some common tenses include: Present Simple, Past Simple, Future Simple, Present Continuous.
What is an example of present simple tense?
I walk to school every day. (Habitual action)
What is an example of past simple tense?
I walked to school yesterday. (Completed action in the past)
What is an example of future simple tense?
I will walk to school tomorrow. (Action that will happen in the future)
What is an example of present continuous tense?
I am walking to school now. (Action happening at the present moment)
