As/like
As can be a proposition meaning ‘in the capacity of’ but more often is a conjuction of manner and is followed by a vern. Like is generally used as a proposition and therefore is followed by a noun, an object pronoun or verb ending in ing.
Difference between among and between
Among is used to refer to relationships involving more than two objects. Between is used to refer to relationships involving only two objects. We divided out winnings among the three of us. She and I divided the cake between us.
Fewer/less than
Fewer refers to a specific number and less than refers to a continuous quantity. There were fewer children in my class. There was less devastation.
Between…and
We had to choose between chocolate and vanilla. NOT. We had to choose between chocolate or vanilla.
Farther/further
Farther refers to distance and further refers to degree. I ran farther than John but he took his weight training further than I did.
