Verb Tense Flashcards
Past
Describes things that have already happened.
EX: I visited my parents last weekend.
Present
Describes facts, routines and things that are happening right now.
EX: The car is red.
Future
Describes things that have not yet happened.
EX: I am going to meet some friends after work.
Past Perfect
Describes things that were completed before some point in the past
EX: I couldn’t see because I had lost my glasses.
Present Perfect
Describes things that began in the past and continue to the present.
EX: I haven’t seen you in such a long time! I have been working a lot.
Future Present
Describes something that will be completed at some point in the future.
EX: By the end of the year, I will have saved enough money to buy a car!
How To
Use the present tense when communicating your own ideas, factual information, or action within a work of fiction.
Use the past tense when writing about past events and completed findings or studies.
Use the future tense only when describing an event that will occur in the future.
