Venular Processes Flashcards
1
Q
How are new blood vessels formed
A
- start off as small capillaries where blood travels through
- the capillaries primary cell type is endothelial cells which sprout from the capillary to form new blood vessels
2
Q
When does angiogenesis occur
A
- creation of a child’s circulatory system
- tumour formation
-in tissues during Wound healing
3
Q
What is angiogenesis
A
The process of forming new blood vessels from pre existing ones
-this process rarely occurs because the cells in the blood vessels rarely divide
4
Q
Inducing angiogenesis
A
-need a stimulus E.g mechanically damaged tissues
-need expression of angiogenic molecules to initiate angiogenesis e.g VEGF
5
Q
A
6
Q
Cascade of events
A
-angiogenic factor production e.g VEGF is released and binds on the epithelial cells receptors
- EC IS ACTIVATED
- EC PROLIFERATION
- directional migration
-ecm remodelling
-Tube formation
-loop formation
-vascular stabilisation
