Venular Processes Flashcards

1
Q

How are new blood vessels formed

A
  • start off as small capillaries where blood travels through
  • the capillaries primary cell type is endothelial cells which sprout from the capillary to form new blood vessels

Q

What is angiogenesis

A

The process of forming new blood vessels from pre existing ones
-this process rarely occurs because the cells in the blood vessels rarely divide

Q

Inducing angiogenesis

A

-need a stimulus E.g mechanically damaged tissues
-need expression of angiogenic molecules to initiate angiogenesis e.g VEGF

Q

Cascade of events

A

-angiogenic factor production e.g VEGF is released and binds on the epithelial cells receptors
- EC IS ACTIVATED
- EC PROLIFERATION
- directional migration
-ecm remodelling
-Tube formation
-loop formation
-vascular stabilisation
