Inflammation 1 Flashcards
Wound healing
A complex integrated sequence of cellular,
physiologic, and biochemical events initiated
by the stimulus of injury to tissue
Healing process
The same events, in the same order, occur in
every healing process regardless of the tissue
type or the inciting injury
The body wants to limit the damage and restore the function
Primary closure
The skin had the epidermis, dermis and fat and muscle
This can open so leaves a scar
Secondary closure
A big gap happens due to injury so granulation tissue forms in the gap and eventually becomes a scar
Neutrophils
•Protection against infection
•Intracellular products release
-free radicals
-cyclooxygenase products
-lipooxygenase products
-proteases
Macrophages
•phagocytosis
•release cellular products
complement factors,
reactive oxygen metabolites,
growth factors,
What are the 3 phases of wound healing
◼ Inflammatory Phase
◼ Proliferative Phase
◼ Remodeling Phase
Inflammatory Phase
Hemostasis and Inflammation
•Days 0 - 6
•Exposed collagen activates clotting cascade
and inflammatory phase
•Fibrin clot = scaffolding and concentrate
cytokines and growth factors
