Ventricular rhythms (theory 3) Flashcards
Idioventricular rhythm
-missing P waves
-wide QRS complex
-20-40 bpm
-where ventricles originate their own impulses (intrinsic rate)
Accelerated idioventricular rhythm
-exceeds 40bpm but less than 100bpm
-same as idioventricular
Ventricular tachycardia
-rate higher than 100bpm
-regular, no variation R-R intervals
-wide and bizarre QRS
-can be monomorphic- wide QRS
-can be polymorphic- variable amplitude
Premature ventricular complex (PVC)
-Ectopic beats
-occurs earlier than next expected complex
-wide and bizarre QRS, no P wave
-can be unifocal- each PVC looks same
-can be multifocal- each PVC looks different
-can appear in PVC couplets (2 one after another)
Ventricular fibrillation
-Rhythm in which the entire heart is no longer contracting
-Quivering without organised contraction
-Random depolarization of many cells
-Responds well to early defibrillation
Asystole
-flat line
-entire heart no longer contracting
-many cells have no energy for contraction
-never a completely flat line
