Ventricular Fibrilation Flashcards
1
Q
What is VF?
A
Disorganised and chaotic electrical activity - heart fibrillates but does not beat and no blood is pumped to the body = sudden loss of consciousness
2
Q
What is a common prior event to VF?
A
MI - causes dilation and scarring
Heart failure
3
Q
Symptoms
A
May be prior warning symptoms e.g. palpitations, light headless, chest pain
sudden loss of consciousness
4
Q
signs
A
Motionless, unresponsive
no breathing signs
no pulse
sudden, dramatic collapse
5
Q
What would ECG show?
A
lots of wiggly lines
might be long distance between T and QRS waves
6
Q
Long term treatment?
A
AID - automatic internal defibrillators - like a pacemaker
beta blockers to reduce risk of ventricular rhythm abnormalities
