Ventral Forearm And Wrist Flashcards
Pronator teres
Origin: humeral head- medial epicondyle of humerus; ulnar head- coronoid process of ulna
Insertion: middle of convexity of lateral surface of radius
Action: pronates and flexes forearm
Innervation: median nerve (C6, C7)
Blood supply:
Flexor carpi radialis
Origin: medial epicondyle of humerus Insertion: base of 2nd (3rd) metacarpal Action: flexes and abducts hand at wrist Innervation: median nerve (C6, C7) Blood supply:
Palmaris longus
Origin: medial epicondyle of humerus
Insertion: distal 1/2 of flexor retinaculum, palmar aponeurosis
Action: flexes hand (wrist) and tenses palmar aponeurosis
Innervation: median nerve (C7, C8)
Blood supply:
Flexor carpi ulnaris
Origin: olecranon and posterior border of ulna
Insertion: pisiform, hook of hamate and 5th metacarpal
Action: flex and adduct hand at wrist
Innervation: ulnar nerve (C7, C8)
Blood supply:
Flexor digitorum superficialis
Origin: humero-ulnar head- medial epicondyle of humerus, coronoid process of ulna; radial head- oblique line of radius
Insertion: shafts of middle phalanges of medial 4 digits
Action: flexes wrist joint; flexes proximal interphalangeal joints of middle 4 digits; also flexes proximaal phalanges at metacarpophalangeal joints
Innervation: median nerve (C7, C8, T1)
Blood supply:
Flexor digitorum profundus
Origin: proximal 3/4 of anterior and medial surfaces of ulna and interosseous membrane
Insertion: base of distal phalanges of 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th digits
Action: flexes wrist joint; flexes distal interphalangeal joints of digits 2, 3, 4 and 5 and assists with wrist flexion
Innervation: lateral part- median nerve (C8, T1); medial part- ulnar nerve (C8, T1)
Flexor pollicis longus
Origin: anterior surface of radius and adjacent interosseous membrane
Insertion: base of distal phalanx of thumb
Action: flexes wrist; flexes metacarpophalangeal and interphalangeal joints of thumb
Innervation: anterior interossous nerve from median nerve (C8, T1)
Blood supply:
Pronator quadratus
Origin: distal 1/4 of anterior surface of ulna
Insertion: distal 1/4 of anterior surface of radius
Action: pronates forearm; deep fibers bind radius and ulna together
Innervation: anterior interosseous nerve, from median nerve (C8, T1)
Blood supply:
