Ventral Competition Flashcards
Parietex Company
Medtronic
Parietex Material
Multifilament Polyester, porcine based collagen film barrier
Symbotex Company
Medtronic
Symbotex Material
Monofilament Polyestern with bioabsorbable collagen film
What happens if bowel comes in contact with Parietex?
The bowel would grow into the mesh
How long does it take Parietex’ barrier to resorb?
14-21 days
Why can’t you trim Parietex?
there is a clear coating that extends past the mesh edges
What are the downsides to Parietex skirted option?
since the skirt is so far to the edges it is hard to see whether or not the mesh is centered when looking through a small incision
Why was symbotex launched?
Medtronic realized that they could not be using multifilament polyester because they weren’t getting enough tissue ingrowth so they switched to monofilament polyester
Downside to Symbotex
they increased the amount of material on Sybmotex to make the product stronger. however it only increased strength by a small amount
Versatex Company
Medtronic
Versatex Material
monofilament polyester mesh
no barrier
flat mesh
Difference between Parietex and Parietex Optimized
made the barrier thicker because the barrier was being scrapped off by cannulas
Parietex Composite Ventral Patch Materials
Anterior- monofilament polyester
Posterior- collagen film
Parietex Composite Ventral Patch Company
Medtronic
Parietex Composite Ventral Patch Features
fixation system
2 removable handles
Parietene DS Company
Medtronic
Parietne Material
Anterior- macroporous propylene mesh
Posterior- synthetic film
Accumesh Positioning System Company?
Medtronic
Physiomesh company
Ethicon
Physiomesh recall
Anterior and posterior side were dipped in the same material and the bowel started to grow into the posterior side of the mesh
Physiomesh Open difference from Physiomesh
anterior portion is not coated in barrier
poserior is monocryl
Phsyiomesh open features
skirted outer edge for easier placement
shape guides positioning
pore size for tissue ingrowth
Proceed Company
Ethicon
Proceed Materials
polypropylene
PDO
oxidized regenerated cellulose
Weakness of Proceed
extremely high adhesion rate (Matthews study)
ORC should not be used in the presence of bleeding (coagulant)
Proceed Ventral Patch Company
Ethicon
Proceed Ventral Patch Material
Vicryl mesh encapsulated in PDO
Atrium Products start with
C-QUR
Atrium C-QUR products is coated with
Omega 3 fatty acid
Weaknesses of C-QUR
tissue ingrowth is inhibited for up to 10 days because of Omega 3
difficult to distinguish sides in lap
no human clinical data
Dual Mesh Company
Gore
Dualmesh material
ePTFE
Weaknesses of DualMesh
permanent sutures required
posterior side ePTFE is not submicronic- cannot get tissue ingrowth and leads to infection
Synecore Company
Gore
Synecore Material
Anterior:- Bio-A (PGA and TMC)
Posterior- PGA/TMC film
Center: PTFE fiber
Weakness of Synecore
Dense heavy weight
states they need non resorbable fixation
more expensive than ventralight
What do PGA and TMC break down into?
acid
