Ventilation JPR Flashcards
Step 1
Determine the location of the fire within the building and the direction of attack
Step 2
PPV must always be a coordinated effort with fire attack and should be situated at the lowest point
Step 3
Ensure you have a fan in proper working condition (check at the apparatus)
Step 4
Place the fan 4-10 feet from door opening used for fire attack
Step 5
Provide for an exhaust opening at or near the fire before the fan is started
Step 6
Ensure the exhaust opening must exceed the intake to the fire compartment
Step 7
Check the integrity of the building and ensure that no interior openings that could push combustion products into unwanted areas.
Step 8
When directed to do so, start the fan and check the cone of air on the door to ensure a complete seal by pulling back the back cuff of your glove, feeling around the door for air currents. Face shield should be down to prevent debris from being blown into your eyes
Step 9
If unable to get a proper seal, use of more than 1 fan or cover the door with plywood or salvage to reduce the size.
Step 10
Monitor operations to ensure that any factors that could hamper the effectiveness of the PPV are considered. Factors such as building integrity, opening and closing of doors, natural wind currents, placement of fire streams and obstruction of air flow.
