SCBA/Bottle/Mask Flashcards
What is bottle made of?
Aluminum alloy with a carbon fiber overlap with epoxy resin wrap with a reflective band at the middle
What is the weight of the bottle when it is empty and full?
9.3lbs empty
14.4lbs full
What is the working PSI of the bottle?
5500psi
How many mins is the bottle rated for?
45 mins at 5500psi at a 40lpm breathing rate
How many cubic ft./ liters in the bottle when full?
65 cubic ft of air
1841 litres of air
What ports does the bottle have?
-Compressed Gas Association (CGA) port for filling with a one way check valve through quick change port
-Snap change for quick and easy changing of bottle to harness
-pressure release valve that activates at 5800-6000 psi which must be reset by air room tech
What other features at the bottom of the bottle does it have?
-Large sweep gauge to show PSI in bottle
-RFID tag for tracking maintenance on bottle
What are the timelines of the bottle?
-15 year life expectancy (see manufacture date on bottle
-5 year hydrostatic testing (colours VFRS tag
-6 month stale air date (sticker with month and year of when to change)
What is the back frame made from?
ionized aluminum and high temp plastic with articulating kevlar straps rated for 1000lb beaking force with a drag strap
How many sensors are on the back of the pack, and what are the colours associated when working?
2 Pak-Alert sensors
Green- in use
Amber - Low air (33%-50%) low battery
Red- PASS alarm activation/ full alarm
Emits radio frequency to communicate with PakTraker
What sounds are emitted from harness?
Chirping: pass activation and or low battery
Crescendo Alarm: full activation of pass alarm
When does the PASS activation start, and when does the full alarm start?
Activation: 20 seconds of no movement
Full Alarm: 12 seconds after activation
Total: 32 seconds
What does the tags on the harness indicate?
1: indicates the apparatus it belongs to
2: When the harness needs to be flow tested
How many batteries does the harness take?
6 - AA batteries

How does air go from the bottle to the face piece?
Dual Redundant Pressure Reducer which has 6 components:
1. High pressure inlet
2. Primary reducer (feed) 5500 to 85-110psi
3. Secondary reducer (feed) 5500 to 145 - 170psi
4. Low Cylinder transfer valve
5. Automatic transfer valve
6. Relief Valve
Both reducers are connected by the automatic transfer valve
Reduction in the primary feed line automatically causes the system to move to secondary line activating the Vibralert (also switches at 33% air)
