Ventilation Control Flashcards
How is the rate of respiration primarily controlled?
Without the medulla and pons of the brainstem
What groups are within the medulla?
The ventral respiratory group and the dorsal respiratory group
What group is within the pons?
The pons respiratory center
What are the four factors that can change your respiratory rate and depth?
Physical, conscious control, emotional, and chemical factors
What is the most important stimulus for breathing?
Amount of CO2
What happens when CO2 increases in the blood stream?
Your blood ph level decreases
What is a physical factor?
Talking, coughing, etc. lungs have stretch receptors to prevent over inflation
What is a conscious control?
Voluntary breathing
What is a emotional factor?
Gasping when scared
What is a chemical factor?
The level of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood
