Ventilation Flashcards
Step 1
Determine the location of the fire within the building and the direction of attack
Step 2
PPV must always be coordinated effort with fire attack and should be situated at the lowest point.
Step 3
Ensure you have a fan in proper working condition (always check operational readiness of fan at the apparatus)
Step 4
Place the fan 4-10 feet from the door opening used for attack.
Step 5
Provide for an exhaust opening at or near the fire before the fan is started
Step 6
Ensure the exhaust opening is approximately the same size as the entry point
Step 7
Check the integrity of the building and ensure that there are no interior openings that could push combustion products into unwanted areas
Step 8
When directed to do so start the fan and check the cone of aire on the door to ensure a complete seal by running bare hand around the door to feel for air currents. Make sure your visor is down so no debris gets into your eyes
Step 9
If unable to get proper seal, use of more than one fan to cover the doorway
Step 10
Monitor operations to ensure that any factors that could hamper the effectiveness of the PPV are considered.
