Ventilation Flashcards
What are the uses of a ventilation system
Cooling of electronic equipment CBRN Habitability Main Machinery Space cooling Galley ventilation
What are the different configurations of ventilation
Fan supply and fan exhaust
Fan supply and natural exhaust
Natural supply and fan exhaust Natural supply and natural exhaust
When is a fan supply and fan exhaust fitted
Where it is necessary to remove large quantities of wild heat, moisture or noxious fumes coupled with the requirement to provide fresh air to personnel working in the compartment
When is a fan supply and natural exhaust fitted
Where the supply of fresh air to compartments is the primary objective
When is a Natural supply and fan exhaust fitted
Where the removal of noxious gases and flammable vapours is the primary object
When is the natural supply and natural exhaust fitted
Used in minor unoccupied compartments and lobbies
What are the different filters and where are they used
Panel filter - Re-circulating trunking associated with air conditioning systems
Supply filter - polyurethane filters fitted in ATUs between the plenum chamber and cooler
Grease filter - fitted to exhaust canopies over deep fat fryers and ranges in galleys
Lint filter - fitted to prevent the accumulation of fluff and fibres in exhaust trunking of the laundry
Dust filters - fitted to computer and sonar instrument spaces and sick bays
Flameproof gauzes - are fitted to inflam stores, paint shops, hangers, vehicle decks and magazines
What spaces require special filters
Galleys Store rooms Auxiliary machinery spaces Magazines Paint stores
What compartments have fire flaps built into the exhaust trunking
Galleys
Main machinery spaces
Magazines
What does ATU stand for
Air Treatment Unit
What does AFU stand for
Air Filtration Unit
What are the different percents of air used in the ATU systems
33% fresh air
67% Re-Circulated
When are AFUs used
I’m CBRNDC state 1, condition ZULU ALFA
What are the three sections of the AFU
Pre-particulate filter
Particulate filter
Gas filter
When are citadel tests carried out
Annually
Prior to DED (Docking Extended Duration) to locate leaks and ensure that those beyond the capacity of ships staff are included in the defect list
During Harbour Acceptance Trials (HATS)
During sea acceptance Trials (SATS)
All ships will be required to carry out a Citadel test during FOST work-up
