Superficial to deep veins
What can cause venous hypertension?
Valvular imcompetence eg SFJ
Age
Standing up
Obesity
FH
Increase in pelvic pressure eg pregnancy or malignancy
What are some complications of venous hypertension?
Varicose veins
DVT
Pitting oedema
Varicose eczema
Venous ulcers
Why do you get varicous eczema?
Inflammation and fibrosis of the skin due to chronic oedema and haemosiderin deposit.
This causes flaking and skaling and lipodermatosclerosis

RBC in soft tissue due to oedema

Lipodermatosclerosis (inverted champagne bottle)
Recurrent inflammation due to oedema
Why do you get venous ulcers?
Poorly understood
Believed to be cause of venous hypertension causing endothlial damage and inflammation and damage
