Venketaraman- Hematopoiesis Flashcards
at what point of development are pluripotent stem cells first seen in the bone moarrow?
7th month. (prior in months 3-7 they are in the liver/spleen)
what do myeloid cells ultimately give rise too?
erythrocytes, neutrophils, basophils, eosinophils, monocytes and platelets
erythropoiesis is hormonally controlled by what?
iron, amino acids, B vitamins and Erythropoietin (EPO)
what do all leukocytes have in common?
they all originate from hemocytoblasts
myeloid stem cells give direct rise to myeloblasts and monoblasts. What do each of them give rise too?
myeloblasts–> eosinophils, neutrophils and basophils
monoblasts–> monocytes
what is the order in which lymphocytes are developed?
hemocytoblasts–> lymphoid stem cells–> lymphoblast–> prolymphocytes –> lymphocytes
what is erythropointin and where does it come from?
cytokine that induces stem cells to RBC. released by the kidney when oxygen levels are low.
