root exposure
high lip line
if extensive prep needed (>50% SA no longer in E)
labially positioned, severely rotated and overlapping teeth
extensive TSL/insufficient bonding area
heavy occlusal contacts
severe discolouration

preparations for veneers

A
none in some cases
depth cuts - prevents you over-preparing
if prep required
 - incisal reduction 1-2mm
 - incisal 1/3 0.7mm
 - mid 1/3 0.5mm
 - cervical 1/3 0.3mm
= E thinner near cervical margin
slight chamfer margin
 - supragingival
 - 0.5mm subgingival - but warn pt of risk of recession over time
maintain IP contacts

A

composite bonds much better to E than to D - veneers rely heavily on chemical bond

alternative - spot bonded composite
 - no etch
 - small spot of primer and adhesive
 - directly apply composite - will flick off with an excavator when you need to take it off
