Vectors and scalars Flashcards
What is a scalar?
Scalars are physical quantities that only have a magnitude but NO direction.
What does magnitude mean?
It means size or extension of something.(It can be measured with number).
What is a vector?
Vectors are physical quantities that have magnitude and direction.
What is velocity?
It’s speed in a particular direction.
What is the difference between vectors and scalars?
Scalars have only magnitude but vectors have magnitude and direction both.
What are the two different quantities?
Scalars and vectors.
In which quantity do speed and distance belong?
Scalars (because they don’t give any direction).
In which quantity do velocity and displacement belong?
Vectors (because they have magnitude and direction).
