Vectors Flashcards
What are coplanar vectors?
Vectors that lie on the same plane
Are any two vectors always coplanar?
Yes
Are any three vectors always coplanar?
No
Vectors acting at a same point are?
Concurrent vectors (Force applied at a single point from two or three directions)
Purpose of unit vector is?
To give direction
To find angle between two vectors the should be connected in which arrangement?
Tail to tail OR Head to head
What are unit vectors used for?
Specifying directions
To describe a scalar, what factors are necessary?
- The specific unit of that quantity.
- The number of times the unit is contained in the quantity.
Which quantites have direction but doesn’t follow vector addition?
Electric current , Angle , Surface tension , Pressure
What is tensor?
A quantity whose magnitude differs from direction to direction is tensor.
What is triangle law of vectors?
Triangle law of vectors states that is two vectors acting simultaneously on a body are represented in magnitude and direction by two sides of a triangle in same order then the resultant is represented in magnitude and direction by third side of the triangle in the opposite order.
What are collinear vectors?
Vectors lying on the same line
Same direction :
Opposite direction :
Like vectors
Unlike vectors
What is resolution of vector?
The phenomena of splitting of vector in such a way that its combined effect results in original vector is resolution of vectors.
What is scalar product?
The product of magnitude of one vector and the magnitude of component of the other vector in the direction of the first vector.
