Light Flashcards
What is reflection of light?
The phenomena of bouncing back of light after falling on a plane surface.
What are the laws of reflection of light?
- The angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection.
- The incident ray, normal and reflected ray all lie on the same plane.
What is refraction?
The phenomena of bending of light when it enters from one medium to another.
What is refractive index?
The ratio of velocity of light in a vacuum to its velocity of light in that medium.
( c / v )
What is Snell’s law?
The ratio of sine of angle of incidence to the sine of angle of refraction is always constant i.e. μ= sini / sinr
What are the laws of refraction?
1.The ratio of sine of angle of incidence to the sine of angle of refraction is always constant
2. The incident ray refracted ray and normal all lie on the same plane.
Where do all the parallel lines meet in concave mirror?
In the focus
What happens to the incident ray when it is incident at the pole of concave mirror or convex mirror?
It reflects back making the same angle with principle axis.
What happens to the incident ray when it is reflected through the center of curvature of concave mirror?
It reflects back along the same path.
The incident ray and their respective refracted rays in a concave mirror are?
Center of curvature - reflects back
At the focus - Parallel
Parallel - At the focus
Pole - pole ( making the same angle )
A concave mirror only forms virtual image when?
The object is between pole and focus.
The position of object and its corresponding size of the image of concave mirror are :
Beyond C: Image is smaller than the object.
At C: Image is same size as the object.
Between C and F: Image is larger than the object.
At F: No image (image at infinity).
Within F: Image is larger and virtual.
Can convex mirror form enlarged image?
No
Can convex mirror form real image?
Yes, only when the object is virtual
The characteristics of image formed by plane mirror are?
- Virtual, erect and behind the mirror
- Laterally inverted
- Size of object = Size of image
- Distance between the image behind the mirror is same as the distance of the object from the mirror.
