Q

Whats a Standard Instrument Departure (SID)?

A

Larger aerodromes may have published SIDs which simplify the controller’s workload because standard procedures can be agreed upon.

Aircraft departing an aerodrome using a SID are to be cleared as follows:
“<callsign>, cleared to <clearance> via <SID>, squawk <code>"</code></SID></clearance></callsign>

Q

What’s a Non-SID clearance?

A

Aircraft departing aerodromes with no established SIDs, or aircraft leaving airspace rather than joining the airways, are to be issued with their route and levels to fly as part of the clearance.
