vasoconstrict mesenteric smooth muscle
severe vasoconstriction in the splanchnic bed

Side effect
A
may produce water intoxication
monitor for s/sx intestinal ischemia (notify LIP of loss of bowel tones)
contraindicated: pts with vascular disease

A
septic shock
esophageal variceal bleeding
can be used as an alternative to epi in refractory VF, pulseless VT, PEA or asystole

Dosage
A
gtt in sepsis - 0.3u/min with no titration
