What are the vasodilator drugs and what is their MOA?
Hydralazine and Minoxidil
Vasodilators do not act through specific receptors but work directly to relax the vascular smooth muscle of arteries/arterioles causing:
arterial vasodilation
increased blood flow to tissues
What are indications for treatment when prescribing vasodilators?
HTN (add on); Severe resistant HTN (Minoxidil bc it is a potent vasodilator
HF (Hydralazine)
What are contraindications for prescribing vasodilators?
CAD: vasodilators can cause reflex tachycardia
Aortic Aneurysms
What are side effects of vasodilators?
Reflex tachycardia
Fluid Retention
Lupus like syndrome with Hydralazine
Excessive hair growth with Minoxidil
