Vascular Pathology Flashcards
Arteriosclerosis (hyaline)
Due to essential HTN or DM
Thickening of vessel wall
Arteriosclerosis (hyperplastic)
Due to severe HTN
onion skinning because of smooth muscle proliferation
Arteriosclerosis (monkeberg)
Medial calcification
Affects medium size A.
Vascular stiffening
Pipestem appearance on XRAY
Atherosclerosi
Arteriosclerosis caused by adipose plaque
Abdominal aorta>coronary artery>popliteal artery>carotid artery
Symptom : angina , claudication
Complications: aneurysm ischemia Infarcts peripheral vascular disease, thrombus, emboli
Aneurysms abdominal
Abd pain / back pain
Atherosclerosis
Pulpable pulsatile abd mass
Crescent shape non apcified (tire tar az aort dar cxr)
Aneurysm thoracic
Cystic medial degeneration
Risk factor : marfan, bicuspic aortic valve, HTN
Associated woth tertiary syphilis(end arteritis of vasa vasorum)
May cause AR
Aortic dissection
False lumen (dar cxr roshan tar az aorta)
Associated with marfan, bicuspid aortic valve, hypertension
Tearing: sudden onset chest pain radiating to back, organ ischemia, aortic rupture, death
Proximal: tx: surgery
Distal: betablocker then vasodilators
