Vascular Anatomy (Lecture 1) Flashcards
Where does the exchange of oxygen, nutrients and waste occur?
Capillaries
What are the 3 layers of the vessel?
Intima, media, adventitia
What are vaso vasorum?
Small blood vessels within the walls of large arteries
What are the large arteries?
Aorta and its branches (braciocephalic, left common carotid, left subclavian, and common iliac arteries)
What are the principal point of resistance to blood flow within the vascular system?
Arterioles
What are the large veins?
Portal vein, inferior and superior vena cava
What is the first and largest branch of aortic arch?
Brachiocephalic (aka innominate artery)
What part of the body do the subclavian arteries supply?
The brain, neck, thoracic wall, shoulder, and vertebral and internal mammary arteries
Which is larger? Ulnar artery or radial artery?
Ulnar
What does the ulnar artery turn inti?
The superficial palmar arch
The radial artery continues distally to join the deep palmar branch of the ulnar artery to form which arch?
Deep palmar arch
The cephalic vein is on the side of which finger?
The thumb
The basilic vein is on the side of which finger?
Pinky
What are the superficial veins of the arm?
Cephalic, basilic, and medial antebrachial veins
What are the deep veins of the forearm?
Vena comitantes of the interosseous, radial, and ulnar arteries (paired veins that follow the path of the corresponding arteries)
