Venous cannula:
4 Complications
Haematoma
Malplacement
Blockage
Superficial Thrombophlebitis
Central Venous Line
3 Indications
CVP measurement: fluid balance
Drugs equating central administration eg Amiodarone or Mannitol
TPN
Central Venous Line
Complications
Immediate:
Pneumothorax
Arrhythmia
Malposition into an artery
Early:
Haematology formation
Infection
Catheter occlusion
Late:
Thrombosis
Damage to sympathetic chain–> Horners
Phrenic Nerve Damage–> hiccough
What is the Seldinger technique?
Used to gain safe access to blood vessels and hollow organs.
Needle used to puncture, guide wire threaded in and needle removed, catheter threaded over guide wire before guide wire removed.
Venous Cannula:
5 Relative Contraindications
Site close to infection
Presence of AV fistula
Mastectomy present
Stroke on that side
Veins of fractured limb
