enamel hypoplasia
- dark pits, rows of defective enamel or malformed enamel
- occurs when ameloblasts are disturbed during development
disturbing ameloblasts during development
trauma, infection, low calcium, neural disorder
enamel hypocalcification
disturbance that affects the calcification of the tooth during development
-looks like a white spot
fluorosis
excessive intake of fluoride during the formative period of the tooth
amelogenesis imperfecta
enamel defects
- both deciduous and permanent affected
- thin enamel
- highly susceptible to decay
dentinogenesis imperfecta
- hereditary
- light blue/grey
- dentin formation affected
- ABSENCE of pulp
- teeth are very weak
tetracycline stain
- if its taken while teeth are forming
- permanent grey stain
- severity dependent on dosage
peg shaped lateral incisors
most common genetic anomaly
- 1-2%
- develop from ONE labial lobe
misplaced teeth (transportation)
mainly in max and mand CANINES
complete absence of teeth
anodontia
teeth usually missing in hypodontia
- 3rd molars (usually max than mand)
- max lateral incisors
- mad 2nd premolars
- mand central incisors

25 to 40%

oligodontia
when 6 or more teeth are missing (not counting 3rd molars)
