What is a Variable
A variable is something that can be changed or altered such as a characteristic or value
Types of Variables
Independent variables: variable that is manipulated.
Dependent variables: variable that is measured.
Extraneous Variables: has an impact by the experimenter
Types of Extraneous Variables
Participant Variables: related to individual characteristics of each participant such as mood, anxiety etc.
situational Variables: These are related to things in the environment that may impact how each participant responds.
Demand characteristics: clues in the environment which covey to the participant the reason of the research.
Experimenter Effects: researcher unintentionally suggests clues for how the participant should behave
