variable speed power transmission devices self test Flashcards
Mechanical variable speed drives use a vbelt , wide v-belt, wood block and traction as internal drive devices. They allow variable speeds of the output shaft compared to the input shaft.
what is the ratio of input compared to output
1:1 -8:1
Mechanical variable speed drives operate in 2 ranges, constant torque (output speed is bellow the input speed) and constant horsepower output speed is greater than the input speed.
Variable speed chain drives are used in applications below 3000 rpm, and where long service is needed.
Torque converters have the output torque multiplied when the load slows the output shaft down .(the vortex moves the fluid thru the impeller to the turbine to the stator and back thru the impeller at an accelerated rate). This rapidly accelerating, recirculating oil causes the output torque to increase , while output speed is sacrfised .
