Variable Elimination Flashcards

1
Q

What is the difference between the capitalized and small letters related to the random variables in the query?

A

The random variables represented using the small letters means that the outcome associated with the random variable is fixed, i.e. it is an evidence; and capital means that it is variable (not yet observed).

Q

What does compute entries “on the fly” mean?

A

It means that you do not have to compute the full joint distribution at once and you can compute the parts of the distribution (a subtree) as you need it.
