Q

What recent work did Vardimon create and why is it so successful and efficient for her company?

A

-Alice (2021) is a virtual reality performance, requiring the audience to wear a VR headset to experience it.
-this is something never been done before so is a unique selling point
-it works as she has already recorded the dancers and it is simply played through the VR headset
-it is extremely efficient as doesn’t require the hiring of a theatre to perform in so no expenses, the dancers are able to tour other works at the same time and Vardimon can create new works, and during covid when theatres weren’t open

Q

How are the dancers used in Vardimon’s choreographic process?

A

-They are thoroughly involved in the creative process of the movement
-they do their own research on the character by reading books, watching films, observing public settings, and going to meet people in real life who have similar experiences to their character
-she sets them improvisation tasks to generate movement for their characters, then Vardimon will question their character as to why they’re doing this movement, what it shows, and how each character will react to other characters
