Influences Flashcards
Explain how dance theatre/pina bausch is considered one of Varidmon’s major influences
-her works are multidisciplinary and engaging and emotive through the use of verbal story telling and use of text talking to the audience. She uses text when dance can not get a message across alone.
Explain how the Kibbutz can be considered one of Vardimon’s major influences
-this is where she was born and raised, the community that she grew up in. Children were kept separate from their parents for most of the day and there was equality between men and women in the roles that they would do in the community. Children had a lot of independence and self regulation. This is where Vardimon learnt the quote “with freedom comes responsibility” which is evident throughout her works in the sense of how she addresses sensitive topics.
Explain how her time working in military service is a major influence on her works
-all students had to do 2 years of service once leaving school, and it was through this that she came to work as a psychological interviewer, ensuring individuals were mentally fit to serve. This is how she became so interested in society and was a naturally enquiring individual and how people tell stories about their life because everyone does it in a different way.
Explain how the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company (KCDC) is a major influence on Vardimons works
-this was the first company she went and trained being invited by Yehudit Arnon. She trained in a broad spectrum of classes including music, art history, movement notation, classical ballet, body conditioning, Graham, Cunningham, and Laban techniques
Explain how issues happening in society can be considered a major influence on varidmon’s work
-these issues within society often act as a starting point for her works driving the meaning behind them and the themes explored. This is what makes her successful in the Independent Contemporary Dance Scene as she doesn’t rule anything out and her works are engaging in so many ways
