Vapour-Liquid and Gas-Liquid Processes Flashcards

Q
What are the McCabe-Thiele assumptions?
A
- The latent heats of the column components are equal and constant.
- The component enthalpy changes and heats of mixing are negligible compared to latent heats.
- Well-insulated column so negligible heat loss.
- No pressure drop within the column.

Q
What happens when the slope of the equilibrium line decreases?
A
- Increase in distance between the operating line and the equilibrium line.
- Outlet gas and liquid composition will increase.
- Amount of substance A transferred will increase and the outlet molar fraction of substance A will decrease.
