Bicuspid Aortic Valve
Will present with DOE in 5th or 6th decade
Tricuspid Regurgitation Pathophysiology
Patients with pulmonary hypertension and right heart failure frequently demonstrate right ventricular hypertrophy, which leads to tricuspid regurgitation; therefore, choice A is the most likely of the choices offered.
Endocarditis Prophylaxis
According to the American Heart Association’s most recent guidelines regarding infective endocarditis prophylaxis, only those patients with prosthetic heart valves, prior history of bacterial endocarditis, unrepaired or incompletely repaired cyanotic congenital heart disease (including those with palliative shunts and conduits), completely repaired congenital heart disease during the first 6 months after surgery if a prosthetic material or device was used, whether placed surgically or via catheter, repaired congenital heart disease that has residual defects at or adjacent to the site of repair, and heart transplant recipients with valvulopathy, and then in these populations of patients, only with certain procedures including tooth extraction.
What valve is most commonly affected in rheumatic heart disease?
MITRAL IS MOST COMMON
tricuspid can also be affected
