validity and reliability Flashcards
relaibility
The extent to which a study or means of measurement produces consistent findings over different situations or time
validity
The extent to which a test, measurement or method of investigation actually does what it has been designed to do
internal validity
A type of validity concerned with that goes on insider a study - the extent to which a researcher is measuring what was intended
external validity
The extent to which the results can be generalised beyond the research setting
population validity
The extent to which results from research can be generalised to the target population
ecological validity
where a measure of a behaviour accurately reflects the way in which the behaviour would occur in normal circumstances
historical validity
Where findings from research that took place at a certain point in time accurately reflect the way that behaviour would occur at a different point in time
