Validity and Reliability Flashcards
What is reliability?
Refers to the consistency or replicability of research.
What is validity?
Refers to the extent to which a study has tested or measured what it set out to measure.
What is internal reliability?
Extent to which a PROCEDURE can be REPLICATED.
What is external reliability?
Extent to which the RESULTS can be REPLICATED.
What is inter-rater reliability?
Levels of agreement between two or more researchers when they are observing the same behaviour.
How do you increase internal relaibility?
Standardized procedure.
How do you increase external reliability?
Use quantitative data.
How do you increase inter-rater reliability?
Operationalize behaviour.
What is internal validity?
The extent to which a study has MEASURED what it SET OUT to measure.
What is internal validity?
The extent to which a study has MEASURED what it SET OUT to measure.
What is ecological validity?
The extent to which the study REFLECTS REAL LIFE SITAUATIONS
What is population validity?
The extent to which a sample is REPRESENTATIVE OF THE TARGET POPULATION
What is face validity?
The extent to which something LOOKS as if it will measure what it is SUPPOSED to measure.
What is construct validity?
The extent to which a test measures ALL ASPECTS OF BEHAVIOUR IN QUESTION.
What is criterion validity?
Whether a test reflects a certain set of abilities in order to predict future behaviour.
