validility (part 3) Flashcards
what is validility
are we measruing what supposed to and distinguish different var
(reliable no nessasrility mean valid but valid can refer to both)
how many varability measures
8
face
usually first
looks at items and decide if measure construct of interest
minimum type and subjective
content
measures all different parts of construct
DIMENSIONS OF construct need to understood to measure this
how to calc content
.49 or above= good content validility
[
concurrent varibility
how well your scale measures established scale= goldent standard
give participants established scale and new scale same time
calc concurrent
strong positive- good concurent val
predictive validility-
scale predicts future behaviour
but not all scales designed this way
calc predictive
high= predictive var
low- is of no consequence( not bad or good)
construct val
theoretical understanding of construct measuring- may find new theroticall construct
(relates other methods of checking like content, face)
known validility
well our scale measure two specific groups of individusals
if know scale can be different between 2 group= use measure known group val
convergent val
how close do scores on scales match other scales of similar or same construct
look how scale compares to others and expect positive correlation between scores on our to score on other scale
discriminant validility
scale produces different results measure oppositive construct
expect scales measure different contructnot high correlated
if no sig it would support us having high discriminant val
