Q

Context

A

Duffy liked to break conventions and in the poem, she does just this by portraying the negative side of love and criticising society for materialistic views

She also encouraged readers to see alternative points of view on topics which she wrote about.

Poetry is often feminist in its themes and approach

Q

Form/Structure

A

The poem is very different to traditional poems. For example stanzas of irregular length and only one line long make the poem seen disjointed

The prom is a list of ways the Onion symbolises love. Words and ideas are repeated throughout which could mirror that the different layers of an onion is the meaning of love is gradually revealed
