She Walks in Beauty Flashcards
Of cloudless
climes and starry skies
all that’s
best of dark and bright
Heaven to
gaudy day denies
raven
tress
A mind
at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent
Context
Byron was known for his relationship with different woman.
Form/Structure
Poem maintains ABABAB rhyme scheme, reflecting the enduring nature of the woman’s beauty and how she is a balance of different qualities
Written in Iambic tetrameter and uses lots of enjambment to represent how he is overwhelmed by her beauty and also possibly his overflowing love for her.
The poem is split into three stanzas of equal length. As it progresses, he focusses less on her physical appearance and more on her inner beauty suggesting that Byron believes that inner beauty is most important and best about her.
