Vacuole Flashcards
Turgid,functions etc
What is the membrane of a vacuole called?
Tonoplast
What is a vacuole filled with?
It is filled with cell sap which contains water and dissolved substances
Difference between vacuole in plant cells and animal cells
In animal cells there are small vavuoles and in plant cells there are large vavuoles
What happens to the vacuoles in the plant cells when they are young?
Young plants have many vacuoles and as the plant matures the vacuoles join and become one
Descrive the turgid process
Water moves into a plant cell
It gets larger
As water filled the vacuole,it gets larger and pushes against the cytoplasm which them pushes against the cell wall
Then the cell wall pushes back in equal force in the opposite direction against the cytoplasm
Describe the Flaccid process
Lots of water moves out if the vacuole
The vacuole doesn’t push against the cell wall and the cell membrane
When cells are flaccid the plant wilts
What is the vessicle
The vessicle transports substances from the Golgi body to places within or outside the cell
What is a lysosome and where is it found
It is found in an animal cell
Contains digestive enzymes
It digests material taken in from environment and parts of the cell such as worn out organelles
Surrounded by a membrane
Function of vacuole
Regulates water content of cells
