vaccines Flashcards
how is a vaccine modified to resemble that of a bacterium/virus
the vaccine mimics the bacterium/virus with no harmful oathogen, but it may contain spike proteins or antigens
How does a vaccine work?
When it is injected into a human, the immune system will be tricked into thinking a real pathogen has entered the body and will produce WBC to fight off the pathogen. The WBC produce antibodies which bind to the pathogen and destroy it to neutralise them. Instead of a spike protein injected into someone, the mRNA coding for the spike protein is used, and the body translates it into spike proteins. When the body is infected with the real pathogen the body will mount a faster and stronger immune response by producing WBC that detect the antigen and form a complementary antibody
