When and to whom should the Influenza vaccine be given?
Everyone over 6 months should have annual vaccine
When and to whom should the Tdap vaccine be given?
1 dose of vaccine as child, then Td booster every 10 years
*Always give during weeks 27-36 of gestation
When and to whom should the Varicella vaccine be given? What are the contraindications?
2 doses for anyone without documentation of 2 doses or who hasn’t had chicken pox
Contraindications = pregnancy, immunocompromised, HIV
When and to whom should the HPV vaccine be given?
Boys and girls at age 11, 3 total doses until age 21 for boys and 26 for girls
*men up to age 26 if they have sex with men
When and to whom should the Varicella Zoster vaccine be given? What are the contraindications?
All adults over 60 whether or not they’ve had shingles
Contraindications = pregnancy, immunocompromised, HIV
When and to whom should the MMR vaccine be given? What are the contraindications?
1 dose as infant, 2nd booster depending on indications
Contraindications = pregnancy, immunocompromised, HIV
When and to whom should the Pneumococcal vaccine be given?
All adults over 65 or anyone who smokes, nursing home residents, adults with diabetes or chronic illness
*if given before 65, give another at 65
When and to whom should the Hep A vaccine be given?
Men having sex with men, people traveling to/adopting from areas with Hep A endemic
When and to whom should the Hep B vaccine be given?
All health care workers and diabetics
When and to whom should the Meningococcal/Men B vaccine be given?
Teens prior to moving to communal living
*revaccinate every 5 years if continue to live in high risk situations
When and to whom should the Haemophilus Influenzae Type B vaccine be given?
1 dose given to pts. with asplenia or sickle cell anemia
